This design was created for enjoyment of the family and as a peaceful retreat for clients of Kirsten’s yoga, meditation, and massage therapy studio. The attached deck was re-designed, creating a space for looking out over the garden. The adjacent hot-tub has easy access off the deck. Screened for privacy and wind, it is usable year-around.
The yin-yang layout of the stone patio and pond is uniquely designed for the client. Stones were hand-chosen, including the rock Kirsten found for the source of the water garden. Mossy rocks along the stream and aeration from the waterfalls keep the water clear. Stone steps, bridge, and paths are designed with a simple circular flow for walking meditation. Features include a fairy garden and fish, special to the children, and Zen garden with raked pebbles for mindful meditation. Native ferns create a sense of calm, from diminutive oak fern transplanted from their woods to masses of large royal and cinnamon fern.
