This residential landscape goes surprisingly far beyond the usual, traditional garden design with its classical urns, rose-covered arch, colorful array of plants, and swimming pool surrounded by patio and shade arbor. It was one of the first projects chosen by the National Wildlife Federation for their
Certified Wildlife Habitat Award. It meets the requirements for native plant food sources, water, shelter and nesting sites many times over.
There is a rich diversity of plants including native to dry prairie outcropping, tall-grass prairie, savanna, and 100’ pond with stream adjacent to restored maple-basswood woods. The habitats included in this design support birds, bees and other pollinators, mink and racoon, and many other creatures in the natural web of life.
